This project was undertaken between an industry from Echizen (Fukui Prefecture) and Echigo area (Niigata Prefecture) that have similar background. They happened to become places where grow Japanese tradition. Echizen has established lacquerware crafts; on the contrary, Echigo has developed Nishikigoi (colorful carp) breeding. Both Nishikigoi hobbyists and lacquerware collectors may enjoy the products here.
Echizen lacquerware that has a history of over 1,500 years in the Echizen area (today, Sabae City Fukui Prefecture), and the other is Nishikigoi known as “living jewels” which accidentally emerged from edible carp. Nishikigoi have been bred by skilled breeders for about 200 years in Echigo (today, Niigata Prefecture).
Nishikigoi industry collaborated with an Echizen lacquerware maker in painting Nishikigoi images onto lacquerware. The lacquerware became items that delight in using by Nishikigoi lovers all over the world.
Following this opportunity, we would like to collaborate with groups and/or individuals interested in creating original designs of their own, using traditional Japanese lacquerware. We are looking forward to meeting new markets or even individuals through this website.
