How to Use Japanese Lacqurware
Q. Is there any type of food that should not be put on lacquerware?
A. No, there isn't. Any food can be served on lacquerware.
Q. Can I use lacquerware with silverware or ceramic tableware?
A. You should avoid using metal utensils with lacquerware because they will scratch
the topcoat. Also, using ceramic products on lacquerware tabletops can be damaged
or scratched the lacquerware's surface.
Q. Can I put lacquerware in the refrigerator?
A. It depends on the base material. If your lacquerware is made from wood, the dry environment in a refrigerator might deform its shape. Thus, please do not place lacquerware in your refrigerator for a long time. However, it is possible to keep lacquerware in the refrigerator for a long time as long as it has a plastic base.
Q. Can I microwave lacquerware?
A. No. Please do not place lacquerware in a microwave. It will cause major damage.
Q. Can I wash lacquerware with warm water and dishwashing liquid?
A. You can wash lacquerware like other tableware except using an abrasive cleaner.
In addition, it is recommended to use a soft sponge.
Q. Is it ok to wash lacquerware using a dishwasher?
A. No. Rapid drying and temperature fluctuations of automatic dishwashers will damage lacquerware by discoloring and warping the surface.
Q. Can I soak lacquerware in warm water for a long time to remove pieces of food?
A. Yes. You can soak lacquerware in warm water for a long time unless it has cracks. The cracks will allow water to be absorbed inside the lacquerware.
Q. Should lacquerware be dried after washing?
A. It is better to dry lacquerware with a cloth before putting it away. Please dust off the cloth before wiping lacquerware because even a tiny dust particles or a piece of sand will damage the laquerware's surface.
Q. What is the best way to store lacquerware?
A. To avoid any damage to lacquerware, put paper towels between the dishes before stacking, lacquerware should also not be exposed to sunlight for a long time because the color can fade or change.
Q. I don't like the smell of urushi lacquer. Is it possible to remove the smell?
A. The urushi smell will gradually disappeared. However, if you want to remove the smell quickly, it is ok to wash with warm water and a non-abrasive mild dishwashing soap.
Q. Is it possible to repair or repaint lacquerware?
